Fort Worth RC Rotarian, Sylvia Mahoney is shown standing in front of a statue of Paul Harris with Ray Klinginsmith at Rotary International In Evanston, Illinois. She is  presenting a copy of her newly released book, Finding the Great Western Trail, to Past Rotary International President Ray. PRIP Ray joined the Rotary project and wrote the Foreword for the book. Texas Tech University Press published the book in January 2016.

The Vernon Rotary Club’s Centennial project to Mark the Great Western Trail had a dual purpose: document the path of the two-thousand mile Great Western Trail that had almost been forgotten and help small rural communities across the Great Plains promote their trail history for Heritage Tourism. Sylvia, co-chairman of the project, was asked by the TTUP editor to capture this project in a book. One academic historian said, “Finding the Great Western Trail chronicles the most amazing public history project in America.”

On May 20, Sylvia Mahoney is scheduled to present a program to the Rotary Club of Fort Worth using a Power Presentation  of the  two-thousand mile eleven-year Marking the Great Western Trail from Mexico to Canada Rotary project that involved some 800 volunteers with most being Rotarians.
