2013 Rotary District 5790 Four Way Test Speech Contest

Our 2013 Four Way Test Speech Contest Finals were held at our District Conference on Saturday, May 18, 2013.  The winners were announced and prize money was awarded.  For the enthusiastic audience, our high school student participants, and our distinguished panel of judges, it was an exciting contest.  It was also our largest group of Finalists ever.

In the Rotary year 2012-2013 we increased the number of participating clubs to 33 and increased the number of Regional Contests from 2 to 3, in order to reduce the burden on Regional host clubs and to offer a greater opportunity for participation among clubs in the western-most areas of our District.  The winners of all our individual Rotary club speech contests went on to the Regionals, where the top two from each Regional won a cash prize and advanced to the Finals.  But, because of a tie at one of our Regionals, we advanced 3 from that contest for a total of 7 Finalists.

Hats off to the clubs who held speech contests at their clubs this year.  Special thanks also go to the clubs who hosted our three Regionals:  Haskell, HEB/Mid-Cities Pacesetters (combined Regional), and Weatherford.  Without these clubs “stepping up” our district contest could not exist.

After judging and tabulating the scores for all the contestants, we had a tie for 1st place.  Both will receive $1,000 checks this week.   Our winners are:

Our heartiest congratulations to our two winners, both of whom will now be invited to give their speeches next month at RYLA.

As our clubs end one Rotary year and begin another, this is an excellent time to make the decision to include the Four Way Test Speech Contest as part of your club’s Vocational Service campaign in the coming year.  Let’s get all our clubs involved and introduce even more young people to the ethical values we Rotarians hold so dear.
