Scholarship Criteria and Timeline

District 5790 Rotary Global Grant Ambassadorial Scholarships will be used to fund one year of post-baccalaureate studyat a recognized university in a non-U.S. country in a study discipline that supports the Object of Rotary and the Mission of The Rotary Foundation (see www.rotary.org).We will be awarding two $30,500 Scholarships again this year. Sponsoring Rotary Clubs will contribute $1,000.

 

Applicants' planned studies must:

Lead to sustainable, high-impact outcomes in one of the following six Areas of Focus:

(a) Peace and conflict prevention/resolution;

(b) Disease prevention and treatment;

(c) Water and sanitation;

(d) Maternal and child health;

(e) Basic education and literacy; and/or

(f) Economic and community development

 

Timeline:

  1. Clubs should identify viable scholar candidates at the beginning of the Rotary year, if not earlier.
  2. Applicants must submit their application and all supplementary sheets, completed in full, to a Rotary club in District 5790.The 2014/2015 Rotary Global Grant Ambassadorial Scholarship form is available online on the D-5790 website (www.rotary5790.org).
  3. Clubs should interview and select their one candidate bymid-October, upload and complete the document preparation onwww.matchinggrants.orgso that aall required documents will reach the District Global Grant Ambassadorial Scholarships Chair no later thanNovember 20, 2013. Applicants are not to forward this application to The Rotary Foundation or to Rotary International at this time.
  4. District interviews will be held only onSaturday, November 23, 2013. If an applicant is unable to be interviewed in person that day due to scheduling conflicts, he/she will not be eligible for consideration for a scholarship.
  5. After successful candidates and their sponsoring RCs are notified, they must immediately begin to complete the Rotary Foundation Global Grant application available online atwww.rotary.org. Since these are grants, clubs must establish a working relationship with a host sponsor RC or district in the district where the scholars' educational institution is located.
  6. The candidates and their sponsoring clubs should register for and prepare to attend the ASETS orientation program in Austin on January 3-4, 2014.
  7. Note that the Global Grant application will not be approved by TRF until the scholars have been accepted by their educational institutions and that the district scholarship awardees are not to be considered Global Grant Scholars until The Rotary Foundation has approved the Global Grant application and all authorizations and required information have been submitted to and have been accepted by TRF.
