Sadly the truck serving the Norma Love Foundation which has been used for service clubs and the people the Foundation serves for nearly 10 years is worn out from the rough roads and constant use to further the good works of the Foundation in Gracias a Dios, Honduras.  The Foundation has relied for years upon the truck to provide the logistics for groups traveling to Gracias a Dios as well delivering items provided by Rotary clubs and other groups primarily in the US and Canada to the Miskito indigenous people of Gracias a Dios.  The time has come that the truck must be replaced.

Without a functional truck the Foundation is significantly impaired from successfully carrying on the mission of the Foundation and helping to carry out the projects of the various  organizations that use Foundation and Norma as their “boots on the ground” in Gracias a Dios.  The Foundation has been able to offset costs of the organization’s efforts as well as reduce the cost to organizations coming to Gracias a Dios by leasing the truck to humanitarian groups traveling to Gracias a Dios and delivering items from Rotary clubs and other groups to the residents of Gracias a Dios.  The monies raised by leasing the truck to outside organizations however has only been able to maintain the truck, not generate enough money to now replace the truck.

The Board of the Rotary Club of Arlington has considered and approved a project to raise the necessary funds to replace the Norma Love Foundation truck.  The Board has adopted the project.  As a project of our Rotary club, our club Foundation and interested individuals and Foundations can pool their money to meet the need to immediately replace the truck. Hopefully we will also be able to receive some funds from our Rotary district and or our District foundation to use towards this project.

The Rotary Club of Roatan, Honduras and Mike Wittry have agreed to assist with the transfer of monies from the US, the purchase of a good used truck to replace the worn out truck and ship the truck to Puerto Lempira.

By making the purchase and donation of a truck through Rotary clubs we will be able to facilitate donations and have documentation of the use of funds for this project.

My best estimate on the cost of the project is @ $25,000.00 USD.  Transportation costs from La Ceiba to Gracias a Dios should be @ $3-4,000 USD, paperwork to transfer title and pay taxes on purchase should be @ $1,000 USD leaving about @$21,000.00 USD for purchase of a lightly used late model double cab Toyota diesel pickup.

Your support of this project by making a monetary donation to the Rotary Club of Arlington Foundation would be greatly appreciated.  By being an advocate to others who might be inclined to support of this project would also be appreciated.  Please let me know what if anything I can do to provide you with the information you need to support this project.
